Ghillie Suit Gardening – Night Shift Report: Mystery Patio Guest #1

Ghillie Suit Gardening – Night Shift Report: Mystery Patio Guest #1Last night the field cam caught a low, slow-moving, rounded shape right by the step riser outside the back door. It was very low to the ground and didn’t trigger the camera on approach or departure. This morning I also saw one of Felicity’s cubs (named Farron) playing with the fallen suet holder and scratching up the lawn.Latest theory on the mystery visitor:
A forum member suggested it looked like a juvenile badger (possible Barry Junior). The size, fur texture, low profile, and shuffling movement all fit quite well. We’re still not 100% certain, but it’s currently the strongest possibility.
I’m feeling a bit “oh dear” about this. While badgers are interesting, they can be quite destructive diggers, and I already have some big holes in the wild part of the garden. I’d much rather have a gentle hedgehog (Horace) than encourage badgers on the main lawn.Tonight’s Operation:
Camera being repositioned on a spike in a tall plant pot by the hedge, angled downwards over the patio and water dishes for a better low-level view.
No kibble or food being put out. I want to observe what’s visiting, not actively encourage anything.
We’ll see what tonight brings. Fingers crossed for a clearer look — and secretly hoping for Horace rather than Barry Junior.

Updated Night Shift Report Ghillie Suit Gardening – Night Shift Report (26th May 2026)The new lower camera position is already paying dividends! Last night we had three visitors:
  • Felicity (or another adult fox) – Looking relaxed and at home on the patio.
  • A fox cub (very likely Farron or one of his siblings) – Caught from behind strolling across the patio.
  • Barry Junior (juvenile badger) – Multiple clear sightings! He was confidently patrolling the patio, having a good sniff around the pots and water area. He even made it right down to the far end of the patio.
Barry Junior is definitely comfortable here now. The footage shows him properly exploring rather than just passing through.Camera Position Note:
I’ve decided to keep the camera on the ground for now. Even though it can’t tilt as easily, it gives much better full-patio coverage and a higher chance of catching smaller visitors like Horace if he ever shows up. The current setup might not be perfect, but it’s already giving us the best footage we’ve had.

Current Night Shift Cast:
  • Felicity & the Cub Crew (including Farron)
  • Barry Junior – officially confirmed and getting bolder
  • Still hoping for Horace the Hedgehog to make an appearance
