Cubs Have Arrived: Time to Reset the Boundaries

Ghillie Suit Gardening – Cubs Have Arrived: Time to Reset the BoundariesWell, it’s finally happened. After weeks of wondering, we have visual confirmation — Felicity has at least one cub (although Tom tells me it's five) exploring the garden. The little one was caught on camera this morning playing with the suet holder that Cyril had kindly dropped earlier. Bold, curious, and full of energy… exactly what I was hoping we wouldn’t see just yet. This changes things.I’ve been feeding Felicity a single, measured breakfast every morning to try and keep her satisfied and reduce hunting pressure on the birds. But now that the cubs are starting to appear, the rules need updating.New Feeding Policy (effective immediately):
  • Felicity still gets one dish of breakfast each morning (dog food with toppings, occasional egg or small chicken wing).
  • If cubs are with her, I will still only put out one dish. She can eat it or share it — that’s up to her.
  • No extra food for the cubs. No seconds. No ground snacks.
  • The ground-level Wildlife Cafe is closing for a while — no cat food, no peanut butter butties, no scattered seed. Pigeon feeder, squirrel house and Littlies feeders will stay topped up, but nothing easy on the lawn.
I don’t like this.
I really don’t like this.
It feels mean. It feels unfair. But feeding an entire fox family would be unsustainable, and it would turn my garden into their permanent takeaway. The birds (especially poor DW) would pay the price. So for now, boundaries are going back up. One fox. One dish. That’s it.Felicity, if you’re reading this… please teach your cubs to hunt somewhere else.
